[ It's not a thing that Heahmund has consciously thought of before. He doesn't really know how to answer. So, instead of answering right away he studies Ivar meeting his eyes for a moment before looking away. ]
You have the potential to be a fierce warrior for God.
So does any other Viking. And none of them are crippled.
[He points out. Heahmund was passionate about his God to the point of being fanatical and the fact he wanted that for Ivar as well was almost flattering in a twisted sort of way.]
[ Heahmund says simply. There had been something different about Ivar from the first moment. THere was a similarity between him and Heahmund but that is not all that it is. Ivar's mind was bright beyond the others for certain. ]
[Ivar tilts his head, appraising the priest with a look.]
How so?
[He's got an idea of why, but he wants to hear Heahmund say it. So much of what Heahmund says is what he thinks Ivar wants to hear or what will manipulate him best, but he'd been able to tell that he'd been sincere in his offer.]
[He could say something sarcastic, scathing words designed to hurt or annoy Heahmund. But he doesn't.]
I could say the same to yo. If you would turn towards Odin and the other gods, you would be a great force for the Norse.
[Heahmund has many qualities that make him similar to a Viking. He's got a bloodthirsty nature when he fights, fierce and utterly fearless as a warrior. But Ivar would take what he could get. As long as Heahmund fought for him, it was enough.]
And why do you keep assuming they are false idols, hmmm? Two of them are right here in this city. My uncles. Unless you're going to claim they somehow don't exist.
[He really should introduce Heahmund to Thor and Loki. If nothing else, they would both be amused by the serious priest.]
I admit there is there is the presence of another God besides my own. But I see no good reason to serve him. There are too many rules you have that I don't agree with.
[Everything fun seemed to fall into the category of a sin. This was a sin, that was a sin, and the one thing you thought wasn't fell into that category as well.]
You can't tell me following all those rules has made you at all happy.
[The name falls with perhaps a touch more affection than he usually has for Heahmund. He knows now that the bishop must be softening up just a little bit towards him.
Then again, maybe he's just saying what he thinks Ivar wants to hear. He knows Ivar loves to have his ego fed, to be told how special and important he is. The frustrating thing with Heahmund is never being able to quite tell what is the truth and what he's saying to keep himself alive.]
And what about the battlefield? It doesn't seem like you serve him much when enjoying the slaughter of heathens. That seems to be serving yourself.
[Not so true. He and Heahmund understand each other very well. There had been an instantaneous connection the first time the two of them had laid eyes on each other. It was like a bolt of lightning striking Ivar.]
Don't forget my will, Your Grace.
[He says with a hint of a smile. He might think he's serving his God, but so long as it served Ivar's needs as well, he wasn't going to complain.]
[He doesn't elaborate as to what he means by that. Ivar doesn't think he'll ever be able to turn Heahmund away from his God, but he definitely thinks he can get the priest to see things more his way.
He's slowly wearing Heahmund down a little day by day. He's not quite cognizant yet of why that makes him happy. Soon, he might realize his fascination with the priest isn't fully platonic.]

I take joy in serving out his will and his will is the death of heathens who will not turn their eyes to the one true God.
